College Preparation
- Transitional Education Programs
- Developed and implemented structured programs for successful intermediary education designed to develop the core skills necessary to successfully transition into college-level work. All programs included functional assessments and individualized programs at one of seven skill levels on six pillars of functioning.
- Programs developed required college functioning including core skills (study skills, organizational skills, social functioning); math skills; topical and functional skills, such as that in basic scientific methods and detailed disciplines; and reading, writing and general admissions preparation.
- Success Statistics: Pilot programs serviced over fifty students with a 100% acceptance rate (into a four year college); 92% of students completed the first year with adequate progress, 66% with exceptional progress. Out of the fifty-seven students serviced, only fifty submitted verifiable progress reports.
- Demography: Due to incomplete and/or inaccurate statistical information, no demography is available for participants in the Pilot 1 program. All participants were self-selected and later internally verified.
- Follow-Up: Since the company is no longer in operation, no follow-up has been performed to date. A Pilot 2 program was canceled during the end of the assessment phase, although some are being serviced privately by former THRIVE counselors. No analysis will be performed on this group except to note that the demography of Pilot 1 and the defunct Pilot 2 groups were virtually identical despite large differences in outreach methodology and program goals (Pilot 2 was designed for students interested in science or medical careers only, and placed greater emphasis on developing skills needed for such fields).
